Rea Valley District provides Scouting in the West and South West of Birmingham, covering areas in Edgbaston (including Ladywood & Cape Hill), Quinton, Woodgate, Harborne, Selly Oak, Northfield, Kings Norton, Frankley Beeches, Longbridge, Rednal and Rubery. We have over 1000 Young People involved in Rea Valley District. Rea Valley actively participates in County, and National events, as well as running large events.
Rea Valley hosts a large camp every year, in which Scouts (aged between 10 & 14) come together, and work in small groups to get a badge. This event is the jewel in Rea Valley’s district diary, with the District supporting groups, and sections by providing support with the more difficult badges to complete. The event is run by our Adult Volunteers, with help from Young Leaders in the district.
In addition to this, Rea Valley also supports DofE, and Higher Scouting Awards such as the Queens Scout Award, the Explorer Belt, and the Scout of the World Award. We do this by providing Explorers & Network (aged between 14 & 25) a programme where they can fulfill these awards.
In 2016, we had 2 Explorer belts completed, one in Canada, and one in Austria, where participants had to make their way around the country, and depended on local people to provide accommodation, and sometimes even food. As well as this, we had numerous Queen Scout Award’s completed, where the Young Person has to c0mplete Gold Duke of Edinburgh, and more items of the International, Communities and Values list.
